Massage Can Help Pregnant Women
by Susan Hege

There might be nobody and no body whose back aches and feet hurt like those of a pregnant woman.

An easy solution might seem like a heavy duty massage but pregnant women are limited in the type of body rubs they can receive.

Massage is soothing to the muscles because the increased blood flow gets oxygen traveling to the sore spots but during the first trimester of the pregnancy, it isn’t desirable to redirect the blood flow away from the fetus.

A bit of notable advice: No body massage in the first trimester and NEVER massage the stomach. It is okay to kiss it, hug it, rest your head on it and talk to it but do not massage it.

That doesn’t leave the loving partners who want to help the uncomfortable moms-to-be with many options so just what options are there to help the uncomfortable moms-to-be?

Foot massage should be safe for all 40 weeks of pregnancy but even that should be checked out first with a medical specialist.

Once the mom-to-be passes the three month mark, there are more options for massage and during the later stages of pregnancy when it can really get uncomfortable massage can be beneficial beyond belief offering much needed muscle relief.

During the last stretch of pregnancy, when a woman’s proportions change, some physical ailments can greatly be helped by the power of massage.

The natural healing power of touch is the oldest form of medicine, both mentally and emotionally. Massage will definitely help the expectant mother feel wonderful and loved.

Other bonuses:

  • Massage helps an expectant mother’s body to eliminate waste products through the lymphatic and circulatory systems, which helps stimulate energy levels.
  • As blood circulation is increased, massage eases the load on the expectant mother’s heart.
  • Massage can also help relieve depression and anxiety caused by hormonal changes.

So yes Massage can help pregnant women!
